Page Kit Swap for EB Repo Cruise thru the Panama Canal - 08/17-09/01

A transparency is basically a clear sheet that's used on an overhead projector - like in schools or offices if they haven't gone high tech. :rotfl: In the scrapbooking world those sheets have taken on a new life in that they're not so clear anymore. Often you will find them with pictures or word printed on them.

Here's a card made from a transparency, to give you an idea what it is. (I'd post a page layout, but it's often hard to tell what's transparency on them.)

oooo...that's lovely.

I agree, this is fun...I have never done anything like this. Go us!

I've done a calendar swap before...that was good fun. Everyone took a month and produced a calendar page with embellishments 12 times. Then you received a whole year in return.

Quick question...

I read somewhere in our emails that someone was asking about transporting paper...are we supposed to be including paper for everyone as well?

Thanks!

PS, I have found several things and I am really excited...I just need to bring it all together! :)

While I was looking around in this *area* I found this link that may help some of us!!!
http://s177.photobucket.com/albums/w234/hopemax/DIS Cruise Swap/

They are some page kits that some DISsers did for a swap!

It's been a while since I looked on these boards.,..... I'm having fun!!! :)

I am so lifting some of those ideas. I see a lot of Cricut items in there. My problem is I have so many ideas and the execution is never quite what it is in my head. :confused3 It is nice to have some newbies to get some fresh ideas.

What is the song the horn plays when we sail away? Is it "When you wish upon a star"? It has been awhile and I am drawing a blank. Thought I might work this in somehow.

I think they were talking about getting paper to cut up for borders, journal boxes, photo frames and such. But I am sure whatever you come up with will be great. That is the fun of this, everyone has their own style and ideas.

YEAH I found you!

I am really looking forward to sharing ideas. Special thanks to Robin for putting this thread together. Please sign me up for Embarkation.

[Hint - Look for waving Mickey hands]

Ruth

Let me know if you are interested, the Mickey and Friends Cricut cartridge has a Mickey hand. I can cut some for you.

Here's a compilation of all the questions/answers from the e-mails - at least I think I got them all:

An idea I had (actually Cheryl & I had it about a year ago! LOL!) was to do *page kits* to swap. Sandwich baggie size. :-) But, I am open to whatever y'all want to do......

Robin said:
What exactly do you mean by “page kits”.

Heather said:
Page Kits - I assume that we put together a pack that covers one of the suggested themes? Do we include 12x12 paper or just embellishments, stickers, etc?
How much should we spend $$?

Sauni-Rae said:
I would imagine since everyone scrapbooks different style and sizes of books it would be more difficult to do the background paper… but photo mounting paper, embellishments, journal boxes… boarders that could be cut down…would work.

Quick question...are we supplying the 12x12 paper and the embellishments?

Stephanie said:
I think this will answer some of the questions --

I thought for this one it might be fun to do theme page kits -- in this case a page kit would be the items (embellishments, titles, etc... everything BUT, the background paper & photos ;-)) needed for a page.

You would bring enough of one kit to *swap* with each one of the participants. Right now there are 17 of us. I wouldn't think there would be any more then 20 of us -- I will post and give this Friday as the deadline to join.

<<Have you decided how you want to go about this? Will be each pick a day/port? >>

Yes. If we end up with more people the choices I think we could add in most anything *Disney* don't y'all?

<<Can we pick our theme? I might have problems getting enough embellishments for some of the themes here in the UK.>>

Yes, you can pick your theme. Heather I have no problem letting you pick first! :-)

<< I personally was thinking of doing an
envelope/holder for the navigators and/or other papers/tidbits that you
don't want to lose, but don't want to permanently attach to a scrapbook
page. This way you can pull them out whenever you want. Is this okay for
everyone? Please let me know.>>

It is fine with me! :-) I don't want anyone to feel that they have to *only* do what I tell them! LOL! If you have an idea for something other then the page kit please tell us! Those of us that don't want to think *outside the box* right now can do the page kits. :-) I have some great ideas!

<<How much should we spend $$? - a rough guide would be great>>

hhhmmm.... what do y'all think???? Should re try to keep the retail value of each kit to $3-5? Or a different amount?

<< but photo mounting paper, embellishments, journal boxes… borders that could be cut down…would work.>>
Exactly what I was thinking!!! :-)

What goes in a "theme kit"?

Sauni-Rae said:
Personally as a new comer I would make it real easy…

First, find some 12 x 12 paper that goes with whatever your theme/possible pictures will be- if you aren’t sure look through some of the posts on Disboard, pictures.... (ie. Beach = blues, sands… Pirate = blacks, browns…) might have a pattern might be solid… Next, use these for cutting into:

· border strips 1 ½ - 2 “ (think edge of page), may be cut with a decorative edge
· 4 ½” x 6 ½ “ rectangles ( 2, 3, or 4) for mounting pictures to
· some kind of decorative piece (sticker, fun cut out…) to help pull it all together.
· Maybe a fun shape to journal in (with or without lines)

Each of these elements can be used on a page or two page spread of varying sizes based on the need of the individual scrapbooker.

A theme kit is a kit that has all the elements to build a page for a scrapbook around the theme. I suggest you go to Micheals and Target. They both sell kits. It will give you a sense of what a kit is. Don't buy the kits. They are way too expensive.

Anyone have good ideas for transporting 12x12 papers?

Michelle said:
This is everything BUT the page paper, so it is all small stuff to fit in small ziploc baggies, right?

June said:
How to transport 12 x 12 pages. I will be thinking of that and get back to you. An idea for now would be to put the pages between a few 'light boards' that come with paper blocks and then tape all edges carefully so it stays together.

Stephanie said:
We will NOT be disappointed!!! :-) Heck, I'ld be fine with a hank (approx a yard) of ribbon/yarn or a few buttons/brads in Disney colors (red/yellow/black) to be used on a page of my choice! LOL! Or anything *tropical*

I am really OK with anything anyone wants to do for the swap!!! :-) I only put expectations on myself never anyone else!!!! :-) I am sure that we all feel the same way!!!

I want this to be a totally FUN get together!!!!

Yup, that's it ... When you wish upon a star.

PS, I have found several things and I am really excited...I just need to bring it all together! :)

No. Not unless you want! LOL! I will have a *craft keeper* with me to transport my stuff. i put a thin piece of cardboard in it. It lays so flat that it isn't even noticed in either my suitcase or my tote bag!

Last swap on board I did bring background paper for everyone -- how could I resist paper that was a map of the Carribean???? ;)

Thank you for the link with the pictures on it. That was very helpful!
So just to clarify...the baggy of fun...is something they can do whatever they want with on that page?

The classes and swaps I've done previously were set pages already done and you just had all the items in a pack to make yours...just like the sample page. So this is new to me! This sounds like fun too!

Almost done!

I guess I am fairly obsessive...I hate letting things go undone.

So I found a few things on the web and ordered them today, and they shipped already!!! Yippee!

Then I went to Micheals to get some inspiration and ideas, it worked. So I got the rest of the stuff I needed.

The only problem is that my husband had a really great idea for our page, so we are going to see if we can come up with a way to make it work. He used to be a designer, so hopefull we can make our ideas work, but even if it doesn't, I am really excited!!!! :)

Oh, I almost forgot to tell you, I HAVE 7000 letters/numbers!

If you need a letter or 20, let me know! :)

Guess I know what I'll be working on, on Sunday too...LOL

HELP!!!! :confused3

Hi all .. Just found you ... I was looking in the wrong area. Everything sounds great so far. I've been working on ideas in my head and hope to get down to work this weekend. I have a cricut machine, but am not an expert yet. Still learning. I'm going to a class at our local store next week called Disney blitz where they use the Cricut to make the characters. Can't wait. Here is a picture of the layouts that we get to make.

They have a free Saturday crop every weekend, so I may end up there this weekend!

That is adorable! :)

I have to be honest...I had no idea what a Cricut was so I checked out some threads and the Cricut website. It is really neat!

Have fun!!!

I wish I was around your area to take that class. I will have to lift some of those ideas for my pages. The characters are fun to make, but very detailed and time consuming. I don't know if I will have time to do 18 of them. It took me an hour to do one Chip.

My DD25 works at JoAnn's and today is her double discount day, so I am going to stop by after work and see what I can find. I am hoping they have some interesting embellishments I can include.

I will be working on my items this weekend along with my FE gifts which use my scrapbook supplies.

I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with...and to get on this cruise. I NEED A VACATION.:yay:

I can't wait to see your pics, Jill!!! are you rested yet from your Repo cruise??? :rotfl:
I've read quite a bit of Matt's TR! I saw that Karen had posted on his thread, also. They are going on the 5 nt after our repo! So is David/Helen (Daipp).
How is your house decorating coming along??? You've had quite the year! And school starts for you in August, right?

WOW! That looks like fun!!! I haven't been to a crop or class in years! :sad2: I used to belong to a scrapbook club that met once a month. I met the ladies online and they held their crops just a few blocks from my house! LOL! We were even featured in Papercuts magazine! LOL! And a couple of the ladies went on to work for scrapbook companies (one of the ladies was co-author of the coluzzle books).
I had lots of fun scrapping back then!

Terri-

Thanks for the offer. My friend dropped off that Cricut set last night. I may e-mail you if I have any trouble figuring it out. This officially means I need to take the Cricut out of the box.

My 13 year old is off to camp for three weeks on Wednesday so I am setting up a table as soon as he leaves and getting started. Right now I am ironing labels on clothes and looking for missing things that he needs and had last week but have disappeared to who know where.
