Pre-Trip report - Yorkshire stylee!

Young Pooh! All Hail to the Yorkshire folk!

I have to ask - have any Yorkshire folk tried the Yorkshire Fish and Chip shop in Epcot?

As I grew up just minutes away from the original Harry Ramsden's in Guiseley I was looking forward to doing a compare and contrast with the Epcot chips in 2006.

However, it was closed for the duration of our stay! How rude!!

Part of me thinks I shouldn't go all that way and pay all that money for Yorkshire fish and chips! (Also bear in mind that I live in Scarborough!) But I have noticed that a side of chips is a snack portion on the Disney dining plan! So I might get around to it!

Mandymouse - how exciting that we'll be in CBR at the same time! I'm excited to find out which village we'll be staying in. I don't really mind - I know Trinidad South looks to be a long way from anywhere but after a day in the frantic parks that might be quite restful! Anyway, my Dad is from Trinidad so it would be kind of cool to stay there!

Shazzie - the get together on the 18th sounds great! Not sure we'll make it as we're out of Disney on that day - but I'll keep an eye out!::yes::

Shortly after this gleeful photograph Shari was broken hearted as the Chip Shop closed for refurbishment - how could they????:(

Well, I've mentioned the ADRs that we have booked -what else might we be doing at WDW?

I'll go onto what we might get up to in each Disney park later - but for now I'll concentrate on extra-curricular activities - NO! Not THAT - you dirty minded reader!

Stuff out of the parks. For example, La Nouba.

Last time we went to Disney in 2006 we arrived at the Beach Club Villas only to receive a telephone message. It was from our two good friends back home who are Cirque du Soleil fanatics - they had only booked two tickets for Simon and myself as a surprise!

We were really pleased, but not really sure what to expect. Circus? Acrobatics? Clowns? Elephants?

Well we went to the amazing purpose built cirque theatre and had the most mind blowing couple of hours of our lives. It was totally awesome! I can't even begin to describe how breathtaking it was. Simon had bruises on his arm from me clutching it during really tense moments. It's scary, exciting, beautiful, funny and just exhilerating. I would recommend anyone to go and see it.

We are going back in August and we're taking the kids to see it. I can't wait to see their faces. I just hope it doesn't give the youngest any ideas!

By the way, there aren't any elephants!

(As an aside, we hope to get to Las Vegas at some point in the next couple of years so we can see 'Love'. Cirque and The Beatles? I'd be in heaven!:cloud9:

We are also having two days at Universal and Islands of Adventure. Another day at Seaworld (where I am dining 'with' Shamu) and at least one day Mall Shopping. Of course these days 'out' will be interspersed with Disney Food Eating!

We don't like going out of Disney too much - after all - we came for the Magic!:tinker:

Hi guys!

Just had to send a quick message!

Thanks for the replies - hopefully when I get back from WDW I will have figured out how to put photos on here! Any tips?

Just come back from walking the dog - yuk!

Having got SOAKED twice yesterday, today is very breezy and chilly! Call this summer? I found myself dreaming of that wall of humid heat that hits you when you touchdown in Florida.....I can just imagine bathing in that warmth....oh yes, then us brits saying 'Phew! This is FAR too warm!' and going off inside to hug the A/C!

Oh well, not long!:)

I'll post our ADRs later - honest!:rolleyes1

Do'h now you've got me longing to feel that hot air blast!
Dam you Woman!:goodvibes

Looking forward to reading your trippie.:thumbsup2

We're at CSR for 14 days from 15th Aug-so might bump into you at one of the parks-are you able to make the meet at Epcot on the 18th? ADRs look great, kids will love Sci Fi, mine do! Le Cellier & Boma are great too. I used free DDP to 'persuade' DH too. Hope you have a fab time:goodvibes

Yep, us too, CSR for 14 days from 15th Aug, with DDP. Flying from Man with Travelcity

The Yorkshire Fish and chips are terrific, the fish are small but you get two per portion and they are cooked in veggie oil, not beef dripping. They do however come with real malt vinegar, not the non-brewed condiment rubbish that most fish and chip shops offer in the UK. You will find that the servers behind the counter are generally the exchange students and they are from Yorkshire. We have seen badges with Doncaster, York, Harrogate, Hull in the past.

If you have an ADR at the Rose and Crown IIRC they offer fish and chips where the fish is the size that we would get here.

Boma is fantastic, you will eat like lords, we stayed in AKL last year.

This year we have adrs as follows

Sci fi
Narcosee
Mama Melrose
Brown Derby
Flying Fish
Spirit of Aloha
Rose and Crown

Oh and BTW, we still live about a 20 min walk from the original Harry Ramsdens in Guiseley

Cheers Tony! It's hard buying sun-cream and stuff when the weather here is so pants!

I'm looking forward to writing my trippie ......except......that means....I'll be back and it'll all be over!!!:(

W00t....Yeadon. Our Butcher is in Yeadon, the Brilliant Meays and Son

We live the other way and it begins with 'M' ;)

Heh, the one thing that has kept Mrs Aardvark and me going this year is thinking about all the stuff we are going to do in Florida.

I am online now comparing SeaWorld prices and looking for discount codes.

We have all saved our holiday money to go mad at the outlets.

You need to check out the following

Orlando Premium Outlets ( have agreat GAP factory outlet)

Lake Buena Vista Outlets

The Florida Mall (full price but we will hit all the end of season sales)

The new outlet at the top of I drive which has replaced the old Beltz outlet

Great start to your report....looking forward to hearing the rest of your plans.

I agree La Nouba is amazing! One of my favourite cirque de soleil shows....we have seen 5 or 6.

If you want to see it again, better hurry. There is a strong rumour that it is due to close in the next year or so

We are definitely going to Orlando Premium Outlets and Florida Mall - our eldest is really looking forward to shopping! On Monday 18th August we go to Ohana for breakfast, go to Florida Mall, shop till we drop then go back to the resort and get ready for a meal at the House of Blues. What's not to love?

La Nouba is awesome! I love the chinese girls with the diabolos!

NOOOO!!!! (At least we are getting to see it again first!)

Hi, we're from Harrogate, but West Yorkshire originally. Been to the original Harry Ramsdens loads of times when growing up, so when the fish and chips were at their best!!! Epcot's were pretty good though.

Scarborough is one of my favourite places and we might get there for a day soon if ever summer ever arrives.

Looking forward to reading your report.

Hey granmaz! How's Harrogate?

Today Scarborough is very wet and chilly - not good for midsummer's Day! I keep dreaming of that Florida heat!

Harry Ramsden's (original) has apparently declined in quality since my childhood days - so it will be interesting to try Epcots fish n'chips! It just seems bizarre to go to Florida to eat Harry Ramsden's!!

It's amazing how many Yorkshire folk are cropping up on here!:)

It has been cold and has rained much of today too. Can't wait for summer!!!

Yes, we drove past Harry Ramsden's a couple of weeks ago and it was almost empty. It used to be that you had to queue outside for a table.

We dop have another good fish and chip restaurant called Murgatroyds near Leeds Bradford Airport which often has queues so something is wrong with Harry's.

The fish in Epcot wasn't as good as ours, but we always have haddock here.

DH was from Yorkshire originally - we now live the other side of the Penines. he grew up with Harrys as his local fish and chip shop just round the corner so we have been loads of times but it has definitely declined. You can tell by the lack of queues outside.
We met at Uni in Ripon and got married there

Bingo ! just a stones throw away ;)

This seems to be a Tyke reunion thread......all together now

'Where 'as ta been since I saw thee....I saw thee....On Ilkley moor b'aht 'at'

On Fish and Chips

My Mum and Dad eat at Murgatroyds every week.

For those who are like us and want their fish uncontaminated by rendered down beast fat (son#2 is a fish eating veggie) check out the following.

Olicana, opposite the church on the road that goes down to the river in Ilkley. Edward , the owner only cooks in veggie oil and makes a great platefull. Be early though, he closes at 8.00pm to avoid the hooligans He has a very small restaurant at the side with 4 tables, very cosy.

Marlows

Street lane, Moortown, Leeds. Also cooks in veggie oil and has a lovely restaurant at the side which is still staffed by ladies in black skirts and white pinnies.

Ooh, thanks, both sound nice.

My Dad eats at Murgatroyds almost every week!!

Yes, it seems to have overtaken HRs as the fish and chip place to eat!

My husband is a Murgatroyd and very proud of this fact!

Altogether now - 'It's a small world after all........!'

I love Ilkley - will look out for Olicanas when I am next over there!

A small world - I used to live in Warrington and we had to go to Harry Ramsden's in Manchester to get decent fish n chips!!!!!

Shari xxxx

We live in Bolton and also used to go to Harrys in Manchester. DH still loves his Harrys and will often get one at Cheshire Oaks or a motorway service station but definitely not like the original. I also remember eating one at Epcot which is how this conversation started but is a few yrs ago so I cant remember how it compared.

We also go to Murgatroyds now when over in Yorkshire visiting family
